Recommendations Monterey, Ca.
MONTEREY PLAZA HOTEL & SPA http://www.woodsidehotels.com/monterey/monte_home.htm Recommend for dinner, lunch, brunch, overnight, weekend or all week. This is a great place. Business conference, Romantic weekend, Wedding, this is the Monterey Plaza Hotel and Spa. Steve and Gretchen Robert got married here after a ceremony at Carmel Presbyterian Church. The food, service, wine was outstanding. The best hotel food for this size I have ever had. The wedding coordinator was outstanding. The weather was beautiful. The accommodations beautiful. The service was just outstanding. Sue and I have come here for years, perhaps since they first opened. The ocean view rooms are the best. The presidential suite you won't forget. Even the Cannery room side will not disappoint you. Great walking location for going almost everywhere in Monterey. Barbara Jacobsen is the person for conventions and wedding reservations. Cecila Jordan was the catering manager/wedding consultant. Other Monterey Hotels I have been traveling to the Monterey Peninsula since 1963. I most likely have stayed at all the hotels and resorts in the area. I have been to many of them for weddings, banquets, Chaine events. I have participated in events and weddings, so have this experience, too. I rank the Monterey Plaza as my favorite. Here are some others:
Doubletree-typical
conference hotel, fair to poor. Good location, if you like wind. Embassy Suites-not in Monterey, no view, cut rate, boring Hilton-near shopping center and freeway, no view, ho hum Hyatt-typical conference hotel, fair to poor. Poor location, as you have to drive everywhere. Marriott-get the managers room and have your own dinner, bring your own wine, have the chef cook a special dinner, a lot more fun and cheaper than going out. Great presidential room, two floors. Monterey
Beach Hotel cold, windy, run down; don't be fooled by the web site,
but certain days, a family place to go and also fly your kites Spindrift---expensive, great view, bed, small, romantic room If
you want to rent a home or apartment for a longer vacation,
try Monterey Rentals. Many motels and very economical places, if you look and call around. contact the chambers of commerce by telephone:
Big Sur
Here is a site listing all the chambers
of commerce in the local area. Other sites are basically paid advertising and the larger institutions have the budget, but there are many great motels, bed and breakfast, and established places that are not covered in the "banner" or " paid tourist sites." The chamber of commerce is still the best place to get local information. http://library.monterey.edu/mcflcip/agencies/087.html
