WINE
CASK is located in the heart of El Paseo, part of the original
settlement of Santa Barbara. It is directly across the street
from the Main Post Office, at 813 Anacapa Street in Downtown Santa
Barbara.There
is a valet parking lot next to the store and restaurant. There
is also plenty of parking on this street ( and the main shopping
area is only a block away ).
Their
restaurant is located next door to their store. They also do catering
in the Santa Barbara area.
I
visited the store on three occasions while I was in Santa Barbara
for a few days. There were not many people in the store, but there
was wine being brought in and out and clerks were busy on the
telephone. I could see orders from New Jersey, other states, and
the people handling the telephone were quite knowledgeable.
I was surprised at the selection from all over California. I found
some really good wine I was looking for and could not find elsewhere.
I even bought some big bottles that I thought were very well priced,
such as a Sterling Imperial Diamond Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon 1994
for $105. Also some Cayus Chaneuff de Pape Blanc 1991 for $65.
Santa
Barbara Wine Futures
( these are from boutique wineries in the area. Typical productions
around 250 cases per year. Some of the red wines, such as Cabernet
Franc and Syrah are outstanding. The Sangiovese are quite good.
I am new to this area and am still learning. The Chardonnay's
were over lactose made for me, but I only tasted four or five
and need a lot more experience in tasting wines from this area.
I was quite surprised at the quality and great prices. )
There
also was a case discount. I was not aware of this, nor did I ask
for it, as I thought the prices were more than fair ( but then
I am used to Silicon Valley prices ).
I
really like to visit the wineries and buy direct, when they have
sales, especially. But when you find a place like this one, I
can see why people like living in Santa Barbara just by the wine
that is available to them.
